IIHS Standards

In order to determine the Top Safety Picks each year, the IIHS puts each model up against a variety of crash tests to evaluate vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian risk factors. To achieve shining safety ratings, Hyundai models were able to prove that they provide advanced protection from collision through a combination of intuitive safety and driver-assist features, headlight quality, and vehicle durability. Every brand should strive to achieve IIHS Top Safety Pick+ status for each vehicle. These models achieve a ‘Good’ score for driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint tests, an ‘Advanced’ or ‘Superior’ rating when evaluated for front crash prevention, and an ‘Acceptable or ‘Good’ headlight rating. According to the IIHS, half of the models with the top Hyundai safety ratings were able to accomplish this feat.

2022 Top Safety Picks

The recent IIHS studies found four Hyundai models that meet the Top Safety Pick+ standards. In the Small SUV category, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson stood out as a Top Safety Pick+ while the 2022 Hyundai Venue achieved Top Safety Pick status. For Midsize SUVs, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade and the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe both showed impressive Top Safety Pick+ ratings. The 2022 Hyundai Nexo was also a Top Safety Pick in the Midsize Luxury SUV category. Other IIHS Top Safety Picks include the 2022 Hyundai Elantra for Small Cars, the 2022 Hyundai Sonata for Midsize Cars, and the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Crew Cab for Small Pickups.
